Propick.net's purpose is to provide resources to help League of Legends players improve their gameplay. Although many other sites exist that provide information for statistics and number crunching, Propick gives players something that these other sites don't offer;
Mechanical skills, game knowledge, and practice are all things that can be mastered over time. However, the best way to improve yourself is to watch and learn from the best that LoL has to offer. There is a lot of times that I play against really great players and just don't quite understand how they are pulling off some plays that they do. By using Propick, you can search for videos of either your favorite player or favorite champion to see the many different ways that they are played.
Although you can't see it from a user perspective, we automated the addition of new videos to our so that the users aren't reliant on us adding content manually. This gives us the opportunity to add more useful features while still adding huge amounts of content to the site every day. For each pro player on the site, we follow their twitch accounts and keep a record of all their broadcasts every time they add a new one. We then use some back end witchcraft to cut the video up into individual games and tag it as a certain champion. This way you don't have to search through all the videos one person might have just to find them playing that one champion you want to learn. By staying up to date with our videos, you know that the strategies you are seeing are the most current and won't run into any surprises when you get into a game for yourself.
In addition to the videos on the site, we decided that League of Legends needed a QUICK and UP-TO-DATE recommended item list. If we went into the site and added a recommended build by hand, then you guys are counting on my opinion to be the best. Instead, we used some more of our witchcraft and take an average of the most recent games for each champion and combine our results into a recommended build including items, masteries, and runes. Although you might value one person's opinion over another's, we decided to provide a build based off STATISTICS rather than opinion.
Propick.net is still in a testing period and we would love to add features that you guys want. We are more than willing to listen to suggestions and hope that we can transform our site into what the community wants. Thanks!HOW IT WORKS
ProPick sends out pings to Riot's servers by using their provided API. We grab as much game data as we can from each of the pro player's games as they are happening. We then take the game information and cross reference with each player's twitch videos and combine the information. We automatically add videos from each pro as soon as they add their video to Twitch. That means our database is continually growing and isn't limited by manpower, the computer does that for us. We had to do a little bit of back end magic and math to get the start times to line up properly so bear with us if a game is a couple minutes off the start.
We then take all the information from everyone's games and compare them to each other's games per champion. This allows us to create a set of recommended items that shows an UP TO DATE list of what items the pros are actually picking for each champion. Although it might not be the ideal build for every situation, it is STATISTICALLY the most built items and should give a great idea on what types of items should be built for every champion.WHY SHOULD I USE THIS?
Throughout the four seasons I've been playing League there has been a lot of different methods I used to improve my game play. However, the most effective was watching better people play. There are so many nuances, both mechanically and in terms of game knowledge, that would be near impossible to learn by yourself. The problem I encountered while trying learn specific champions or roles was that I had to continually search between streams and players to find someone playing what I wanted to learn. It was both frustrating and time consuming. ProPick allows the users to search through thousands of videos easily and with many different sorting criteria. From noobs to challengers, there are videos on the site that can teach every player a thing or two.
We already have a lot of information for each game and overall champion that we store. We are currently working on ways to add them visually to the site in a way that provides as much information to the user without hindering the simplicity of our interface. Some key features soonto come:
-Runes and Masteries for each game and an average for the overall champion -Statistics showing what champions are being played the most, their win % and what each pro is playing. -More exact start times on videos and a YouTube conversion button. -As much additional helpful data as we can provide; from graphs to charts and numbers
